Winter in Dienten am Hochkönig

Dienten is in the heart of the Hochkonig's snow-sure valley and has one of the highest annual snowfalls in Austria.  The entrance to the Hochkönig ski area is right in the centre of the village. The romantic holiday resort of Dienten is the perfect starting point for numerous ski tours, snowshoe hikes, cross-country skiing tours ski touring.

Dienten is not known for rowdy après ski, which makes it attractive for families and those wishing to enjoy the peace and serenity of the area. However, there is still plenty of choice for lovely evenings.

Skiing in the heart of the Hochkönig

The Hochkönig Valley is a winter wonderland, providing ski enthusiasts with first-class, snow-sure ski slopes ranging in elevation from 860m to 1900m. With over 150kms of groomed pistes and 33 ski lifts- visitors are spoiled for choice.  From Dienten, you can ski to the town centre or travel east to Mühlbach or west to Maria Alm.

The Hochkönig region also offers freestylers three fun parks and a Funslope. The 1.8 km long snow park at the Kings Cab gondola, free Wi-Fi, over 50 jumps and jibs. The 850 m long funslope has steep curves, a wave track, rainbow butterbox, sound high five slopy and sound play.

For parents, Dienten is the location of your dream ski vacation. The main beginners slope and lift as well as the ski school offices are in Dienten.  There is also various ski hire shops and stores selling a range of ski or snowboard gear.

Cross Country Skiing

The Hochkönig region has 40 km of perfectly prepared trails with panoramic mountain views.  In addition, there is also a night cross-country route and two high-altitude cross-country ski trails at the foot of the Hochkönig in Mühlbach / Dienten.

  • Arthurhaus trail: at 1,500m altitude, length 3.7 km, easy, circular route.
  • Birgkarloipe: at 1,370 m altitude, length 7 km, easy to medium, circular route.

 

Ski-touring

Ski tour in the Hochkönig region is a fantastic experience! The regions provide twilight tours where selected slopes are specially opened for ski tours and guided ski tours on Hundstein (Europe's highest grass mountain)
